The Royal Academy of Dance Silver Swans initiative has been developed to provide older learners, with an opportunity to take part in ballet classes. Whether you’re an experienced dancer, have briefly dabbled, or a complete novice, we welcome learners of any ability. Although aimed at those aged 55 and over, there is no upper or lower age limit to becoming a Silver Swan.
Dance uses both the mind and body, and ballet is a fantastic way to gain strength, improve balance, transform your posture, keep your mind active, boost memory and help with mental wellbeing and confidence.
Sarai's focus is to share with others her passion for ballet, to make it accessible for older learners, and above all to have fun! Come join Sarai in exploring your inner dancer, learn how to stand taller and to move with grace and elegance!
Sarai's Silver Swans classes will be taking place at The Recreation Rooms, Leighton Buzzard. It is a beautiful spacious dance studio located a short walk from Leighton Buzzard Rail Station, parking is available directly across the road in Mentmore Road Car Park. The large space and good ventilation at The Recreation Rooms enables the Silver Swans classes to be COVID safe*.
What you need to bring to your Silver Swans® ballet class...
1. Comfortable clothing
Something that you are able to move in, such as, leggings and a t-shirt or active wear. Please also feel free to wear ballet dance wear if you prefer, such as a wrap around ballet skirt.
2. Ballet shoes
You can find canvas ballet shoes with elastics (not ribbons) online from brands such as Capezio, Bloch or Freed. It is ideal to have a split sole shoe but not essential. If you are attending a 'taster session' and do not want to buy a pair of ballet shoes just yet, then you can wear a pair of socks instead!
3. A bottle of water
It is important to stay hydrated when exercising.
